Fixing My Focus
By fixing my #focus on all that I love, have, and want to see more of is what helped me through difficult situations and during times I felt like I was not going to make it through.
It is easy to get wrapped up in the things I don’t want and when that happens it fogs the blessing I already have. I begin to think what good is it to complain and focus on what is going wrong or what I don’t have? Does focusing on what I don’t want, get me closer to what I want?
It became very clear what I focused on was magnified.
For example, when I was working for a company called #SalesLoft I experienced #racism for the first time in my life. After a meeting with the COO and CPO and being written up for standing up for something that was done that was not right, I was left in shock.
I never thought racism was a thing yet I was shown that it was. Everyone would literally try to speak to me and tell me how it was real and I would respond... it's only in your mind.
Instead of being grateful for learning that racism is in existence and how I can help people understand it from my own experience. I began complaining about how it is not right that I put so much into a company and I was in turn treated as if I were nothing. I then began to spiral into seeing all that was wrong with the company. I went from focusing on all the things I loved about the company to focusing on all I did not like. It became draining to even think about going into work because all I could focus on was how terrible it of an environment SalesLoft was.
One day I realized that I need to change my focus. I began to move my focus on all that I loved about where I was. I focused on the opportunities and blessings that I had in the company. At this time I had excellent employees who were the only reason I would wake up and go to work. I began to move my focus on developing them. There was a shift in me where I realized the job I was doing and the place I was at was not as important as the people I had the opportunity to lead.
Working at SalesLoft became a joy again because I began to focus on what I loved about being there.
I love this verse that tells us what to focus on.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy -- think about such things. Philippians 4:8
Focus Using I AM Affirmations
I AM affirmations is one tool I use today as they are easy to place myself in the present moment. They help me to focus on what I want in every situation.
Sometimes I feel small and powerless but when I move the focus to the power Higher than me I can allow that power to move through me.
When I think of all the qualities that I want to see more of in my life I remember there is a power within that is already where I want to be.
I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me. Psalms 57:2
By stating I AM, I am crying out to the Most High who makes these qualities clear in me.
What Are Affirmations
Affirmations are statements we make about our being and our lives.
The word Affirmation means: something validated, made firm.
An affirmation is a desire stated in the present tense terms as if it is already manifest in our lives.
How I Practice I AM Affirmations
I use I AM #Affirmations in a few ways. I write them down and I will close my eyes and repeat the affirmation until I see myself there. It is like a prayer for those qualities to be built up within me. After a little time, I begin to feel and see whatever I am affirming flow through and all around me.
It literally begins to be my reality!
Here are a few affirmations that I use whenever I am facing a difficult situation, feel low in confidence, or having a challenging time with an individual.
I AM Love
I AM Peace
I AM Joy
I AM Patience
I AM Kindness
I AM Forgiveness
I AM Confidence
I AM Free
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24
I open myself up to receive whatever it is that I ask for.
Gratitude In Everything
There is always something to be grateful for and thankfully we have the choice of where we place our focus in every individual and situation. Everything and everyone that is placed in your life is here to help you grow. What you learn you can then share and help others.
Making the choice to grow in each experience (even the challenging ones) is completely up to you. I AM Growth!
I am not saying that it is okay for racism to continue in any means. Neither am I saying that you should ignore or become blind to things that happen. It’s not that I become blind to things or don’t accept them. It’s about knowing that It Is What It Is!
Sometimes there are sufferings and unjust things that will happen in this life which we must endure them and learn from them. I can accept that all things are happening always happening for my growth and the ultimate purpose I am placed here for the Glory of God.
Each experience I go through is here to teach me and I can turn and help someone else going through something similar.
Even though we feel we don’t deserve to go through something it all has its purpose and we can endure them and keep doing what is good. We can focus on all that there is to be grateful for and can learn from that experience knowing it is for a Higher purpose.
For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, that is commendable before God. 1 Peter 2:19-20
Blessings After Enduring
After enduring and finding gratitude in where I was at SalesLoft, I was transformed.
I began to realize how I had such a love and passion for helping others at all stages of life.
I always had a love for numbers and spent most of my career in Finance and Accounting. After managing a team she realized how many people were following money or what their parents did versus following their true desires. My love for numbers was transformed into a love for people.
In September 2018, I decided to leave my job at SalesLoft to help people discover and live out their inner desire and release it into the world.
I now work with children and helping them be who and what they want to be outside of what society tells them they should or have to be. I created an alphabetical picture book entitled, I AM WHATEVER I SAY I AM, that uses I AM affirmations to inspire imagination and helps connect you to the power of I AM. Also, I am facilitating a workplace mindfulness program to help reconnect disengaged employees to their inner self and being present in the moment. Distractions and disengagement are also leading to vicious cycles of employee dissatisfaction. With the experience of being disengaged and dissatisfied I realize it was costing myself as well as the company. Which is why I wanted to find a way to help #employees as well as companies transform. The ROI on training the mind to be mindful, present, focused and aware yields positive results on day one and never stops!
